Quote:
Rubens Barrichello has acknowledged that retirement from formula one is 'closer than ever'.

Behind Michael Schumacher, the 34-year-old Brazilian is the most experienced driver on today's grid, and with nearly 230 Grand Prix is third on the list of most experienced of all time.

But Barrichello, who joined Honda this year after six years at Ferrari, admitted to Auto Bild that he is not likely to trouble Riccardo Patrese's all-time record of 256 race starts.

That gives him less than two seasons left in F1.

"I love this sport," Barrichello said, "but I do not want to break Patrese's record. It will be one of the saddest decisions of my life."

It is totally up to him, when he feels the need to retire I'm sure he will.

Maybe he feels he should spend more time with his wife and 2 young kids

RB has plenty of passion and he feels me with delight every time he gets on the podium. you can tell he drives for the passion and no one can take that away from him.. If he WANTS to retire then he should // then someone else can hold the light on what F1 racing is all about....like DC.

If RB does /will retire for 2008 i think he would be ideal as an ambassador for the sport.

Time will tell. Rubens is a great bloke, will be sorry to see him go when he does, but at least it will make room for some new guys, and at least its not DC, not yet.

I like RB and will be sad to see him leave the sport but it will come to all of them eventually including DC which hopefully will be in the very distant future.

I said no he shouldnt, purely because he is one of the good guys in the pitlane, always willing to talk to the media and fans etc. But i can see why he would retire with his young family. Would miss his presence greatly. Sad
As for being the 2nd oldest after MS, i believe DC is the 3rd! A sad day Crying or Very sad
