What do you think will Schumi at the ancient age of 40 make a return to cover Massa's absence??

Schumacher would consider replacing Massa
Tuesday 28th July 2009

Michael Schumacher would consider a return to F1 as Felipe Massa's stand-in, his spokeswoman has confirmed.

Schumacher has already been strongly touted as a potential replacement for the Brazilian while Massa recuperates from the injuries he suffered during his horrific crash at the Hungarian GP. While Schumacher's manager Wili Weber ruled out the possibility of his client returning to F1 on Sunday, it would appear that the German is now giving serious thought to the possibility of driving for Ferrari again.

"The whole thing will be considered by Ferrari. If they approach Michael, then he will consider it," the seven-time champion's spokeswoman told BBC Sport.

Although Schumacher himself ruled out a return to F1 in an interview two weeks ago, his spokeswoman, Sabine Kehm, clarified that his position may be different if Ferrari ask him to temporarily replace Massa.

"Usually, I would say he's not interested because he's fine with his life and he doesn't miss anything but now the situation is so different - it's very hypothetical - and Michael doesn't want to step into that [discussion]," she stated.

There is, though, a question mark over Schumacher's fitness after he suffered a neck injury during a motorbike accident in February.

"I really can't tell you if his neck would be fine to drive an F1 race," she said.

"If Ferrari asked him whether he would consider driving, he would have it checked - and remember he is a 40-year-old man, too."

Can't believe I vocted yes to this however I feel in the wake of recent events MS would be the ideal candidate to cover until either Massa returns or a replacement needs to be found.

I voted NO in an honest personal vote. HOWEVER, i would like to see him in a racecar this year, as even though i didnt like him, in a weird and strange way, i miss him on the grid, also i would be interested where he would make it on the grid , against everyone else.

The tifosi would be mental if it happened , what with their GP coming up late summer too.

Kubica already in frame to replace Massa
Wednesday 29th July 2009

Robert Kubica has already been touted for the vacant seat at Ferrari ahead of BMW's expected withdrawal from F1.

The team are widely predicted to announce their exit from the sport at a press conference to be held later on Wednesday.

While the announcement would most probably signal the end of Nick Heidfeld's career in the sport, team-mate Kubica would not be short of offers. According to The Daily Mail, 'Kubica, the man world champion Lewis Hamilton measured himself against as they rose together through the ranks, could even be in place to drive for Ferrari at the next race, the European Grand Prix in Valencia on August 23

Haug: McLaren won't block Schumacher test
Monday 3rd August 2009

Mercedes motorsport boss Norbert Haug says McLaren will not stand in the way of Ferrari's request for Michael Schumacher to have a one-day test in this year's F60.

Schumacher is set to return to the sport in which he won seven World titles, replacing the injured Felipe Massa at the European GP at Valencia.

But given that Schumacher retired from F1 at the end of 2006 and a great deal has changed since, Ferrari have written to the FIA and their rival teams requesting that the German be permitted a one-day test in this year's F60. So far Schumacher has only put in laps in a 2007 Ferrari, fitted with GP2 tyres.

One team that is in favour of Schumacher being allowed the test is McLaren with Haug insisting that it would only be "fair" given the circumstances.

"Whatever we can do to support him we will do," he told Autosport. "I just think it is fair. This is an exception. If Michael had said he would come back under the condition that he could test, everybody would have said yes.

"His team-mate has thousands of kilometres in this car, and he has nothing. As we are fair players, why should he not get some testing? I would be very open to that."

But just because McLaren-Mercedes are in favour, that doesn't mean the other eight teams on the grid will say yes.

"You will find some guys that will try to block it. But what goes around comes around. They will need some help at another stage. It's not giving people presents, it's being fair when it's justifiable."

As for the question about whether or not Schumacher could make an impact on the race results upon his return, Haug has warned that the 40-year-old should not be written off - test or no test.

"He is good enough that he could get the job done on Friday if the car is quick," he said. "Michael is a competitive guy, he will prepare himself in a very mature and thorough manner.

"If the car is a potentially winning car, then he will be able to win in it. The characteristics at Valencia are not too different to Hungary."

He added: "This is the best thing that can happen to Formula One. The best news is that Felipe is quite okay and can leave the hospital. That looked really frightening."

I'm sorry why the f*** should MS get a days test driving when no-one else can? Torro Roso's new driver had no chance to test the new car apart from the team allowing him to do LOTS of laps at the practice sessions.... Things don't change one rule for Ferrari........

Oh apparently Williams have objected!! lol

Ferrari always seem to get away with it tho!

As Williams said, they could use Badoer or Gene who are their reserve drivers who have driven the new car, although a while back now!!

I have to agree with you. I wonder if there is another reason why MS was asked?? A 2010 contract perhaps?????

Red Bull and Torro Roso have also declined saying that Jaime didn't get the chance, but the Mercedes have said that had they asked they would have agreed to let him have a test!!!

Ferrari have taken a swipe at Williams after they blocked their bid to test Michael Schumacher in this season's car.

Ferrari last week wrote to the other nine Formula One teams and the FIA requesting Schumacher be granted a day at the wheel of the F60 given he has been retired for almost three years.

The seven-time World Champion is due to return to racing at the European Grand Prix in Valencia on August 23 in the absence of the injured Felipe Massa.

But Williams adhered to the letter of the law that prohibits in-season testing, with team boss Frank Williams seeing no reason why Schumacher and Ferrari should be granted special dispensation.

That clearly angered Ferrari, who have made their frustration clear in an article on their official website, initially taking a pop at Williams.

"Guess who opposed the test with the F60?" questioned Ferrari.

"A team that hasn't won anything for years and yet didn't pass over the opportunity to demonstrate once more a lack of spirit of fair play."

Williams have also been backed by Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso, who were not allowed to test 19-year-old Jaime Alguersuari prior to his debut with Toro Rosso in Hungary.

Ferrari added: "Just for the record, the Scuderia Ferrari had given its approval to let Alguersuari test.

"But it seems even in this instance someone decided to stick to the precise wording of the regulations."

Laughing fancy that!! Someone sticking to the regulations!! Laughing
